I’ve been thinking a lot about friends who act as wedding vendors. My brother’s wedding was put together almost completely by his and his wife’s friends. The wedding was beautiful and it reflected them as a couple. But people in the wedding industry don’t seem to share my opinion on the fabulousness of friendors. Recently, Peter and I met with a few wedding planners who cringed when I told them my friend would be making our wedding cake. The planners quickly threw out a number of stories in which a friend acted as a vendor and either didn’t follow through or screwed up, thus ruining the wedding. It seems a little dramatic to me. Plus, they don’t know this friend. She’s not only the person who introduced us, she’s also unbelievably amazing. Think about a younger, prettier, smarter Martha Stewart without the whole jail factor. In short, she’s that totally put together girl that everyone wishes they could be.

This weekend she came in town and brought us a sample cake. On her first attempt she completely blew away every other cake we’ve tried during various bridal shows. Staying in line with our theme, she made us a lavender flavored cake. Lavender has become a probable theme for the wedding because of its calming properties and because it reminds me so much of my mother. (If my mom ever reads this post I’m sure she’ll tell you about all of its natural benefits.) A calming scent that reminds me of my mother + a cake made by one of my best friends–what’s not to love?

Here’s a photo of the cake in a non-wedding cake form followed by a picture of the future groomie who was completely unaware that I was taking a picture.
