I know it doesn't look like it but everyone had told us to do a lot of really light coats for the best result. It looks like your table is in much better condition than this dresser was in. I think you'll be fine as long as you're patient with it. You also might want to try to sand out any imperfections beforehand. I can't wait to see how it turns out! I've never stained anything... but I'm planning on doing my table. Hopefully the fact that I'm doing a super-dark stain will help out with any mistakes I make.
