Before Peter and I moved in together, I read a lot of articles about difficulties that many couples face when trying to merge their decorating styles. So when I moved in I waited and waited until eventually I couldn’t stand it anymore. I needed our place to feel like a home. We decided to pick one room and focus our efforts on making it feel livable. We’ve had some detours along the way but I can finally say that it’s finished, or at least as finished as a room can ever be.
Last night while looking back on the before photo, Peter exclaimed, “How did you even live here?!” The funny thing is that he lived here for three years like this before I ever moved in, except without the TV or the coffee table. It was really bare.

(Sorry, I forgot to straighten out the cover on the chair before I took this photo.)
I would love to add a rug but, unfortunately, one of our dogs can’t control his bladder when he gets excited. We love him anyway.
You can read more about what we did here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. *Deep Breath* On to the next room.

What a transformation! Great job
.
Thanks Kasey! We’re really happy with how it all turned out.
It looks fabulous! I love all of the tufted furniture!
Thanks Meg! Peter actually owned the tufted furniture when I moved in. He thought he really hated it but then slowly realized that he had hated the look of the whole room and just blamed the furniture.
It looks amazing Jamie! Ugh it was so depressing to go visit Peter because the condo is sooo cute and he managed to make it boy gross. I can’t wait to see it in person in May!
Thanks Vanessa! The rest of the condo definitely needs work but we’re happy to have at least one room that feels like home. I can’t wait until you can see it in person!
i found your blog through the house notes top 10, and i have some dog-friendly advice for you: indoor/outdoor rugs. we have two huge dogs who drool a lot and love to get muddy, so i was really nervous about investing in a new rug recently. we found a great indoor/outdoor rug that looks and feels similar to sisal, and it’s holding up great! we’ve even had a major coffee spill and several excited-pup-bladder-control incidents, and it’s really easy to clean! our rug came from capel, and they also have great ones at ballard designs, shades of light and overstock
Thanks Lauren! This is really great advice. We will definitely look into it. What kind of dogs do you have? Peter loves big dogs. When we have more space for a dog to run around we’ll probably adopt one! Thanks for stopping by.
