I’ve wanted an Ikea Mongstad for a long time but I’ve put off buying one because Peter and I are trying to concentrate on only decorating one room at a time.Thursday night I came home from work, ran upstairs to change into my painting clothes, and saw this with a note taped to it.

(It seems like a weird angle because every other angle showed a huge pile of clutter.)
Peter surprised me by buying a Mongstad as an early Valentine’s Day present! I’m so excited to have such a large full length mirror in our home. Now, I will have no excuse for leaving the house looking horribly. (Umm, should we take it back?) Plus, when we continue decorating our bedroom we will have this beautiful piece to pull things together. Several other home bloggers use large framed mirrors to create a functional elegance. I love the way that the Young House Love couple incorporated a similar mirror into their bedroom to create a chic dressing area.

So, tell us: what are your decorating tactics? Do you try to decorate one room at a time or do you gather bits and pieces as you see them? Have you received any fabulous presents that inspire you to jump around? Right now I’m staring at the wall thinking about how nice our Mongstad would look with some beige curtains…

Awwww, what a sweet gift! I love how he surprised you!
That mirror is beautiful. So sleek and chic. love it! I wish I had the patience to do one room at a time, but I’m all over the place. I have decorating ADD, and while I’m working on one room, I’ll have a eureka! moment for another room, and I end up running back and forth all over the house.
A couple of days after I had my epiphany about our guest room, I came home from work and Lee had propped paint, primer and supplies on the guest bed along with a note that said he wanted the room to be as pretty as his wife. So ooey gooey, but his surprise made me melt. He also surprised me with a cute rug he found on Craig’s List, which was a great find.
And yes. I’m thinking what you’re thinking. Not to be a bad influence, but curtains would be a pretty fast and easy project and could make a big impact! I can’t wait to see how the room turns out.
We picked good guys Meg! Lee sounds like he is really sweet! We are one step away from finishing the living room (for now) so I think we’re going to do that and then maybe add some things to the master bedroom. I’d also love to get a chest to go in front of the bed so we could stuff all our throw pillows in there. Maybe its time to do some of the things that have been driving me crazy and then go back to one room at a time.
