Dog food is one of the many things that we buy in bulk. We always have a steady supply of food on hand for our little dogs and we save a lot of money buying it in such large quantities. But, as I’m sure many of you have realized, a huge bag of dog food is never a good design choice.

So here’s our quick fix.

We keep a steady supply of dog food out on the counter in a cute glass jar and we hide the rest of it in plastic bags under the counter. We reuse the plastic bags every time we buy new dog food, but you could always use other canisters for a more eco-friendly option. It’s not genius but it definitely makes a world of differnce.
Where do you store your pet’s food? Do you repackage it like we do or do you just leave the bag?

We use a bin and stash it in the basement. With having 2 hungry dogs, we have to always by the 50lb bags, or we would be buying food every week. I love your glass container!
Thanks Danielle! I wish we had a basement to hide some of our things. Of course that may create other problems!
I wish I had a basement too!!
For now, I have an extra plastic garbage can (with lid) that I use for the extra food. It stays in the pantry.
I know, a basement would be fabulous. I didn’t realize they were so common until I met Peter. They’re just so rare here.
That sounds like a good plan Kasey. My mom has something similar in her laundry room.
So smart! Animals are tricky. If you don’t watch them, they’ll come up with some devious plot to reach the food. I love the cute canister you use!
We keep our vat of kitty food in a large storage bin in the garage and use a Rubbermaid cereal ‘keeper’ container in the kitchen for everyday pouring. It helps keep the odor and the ants out!
That’s a great idea Dolores. The smell of pet food is definitely bad. I often hold my breath when I feed them and then immediately feel bad that they have to eat it.
Thanks Meg. We’re pretty lucky because our dogs don’t try to trick their way into more food. They’re actually a lot more like cats in that respect.
